Hose bib repair and frost-free upgrades

The humble hose bib waters everything you own and gets zero respect until it sprays the wall or seizes shut. We repair, replace, and upgrade outdoor faucets, including the frost-free versions our winters keep arguing for.

Small fixture, outsized damage

A dripping hose bib looks trivial, and then you do the math: a steady drip is thousands of gallons a year, frequently soaking into a stucco wall or foundation edge where it feeds damage you cannot see. A bib that broke off flush with the wall, usually from one hard pull on a stuck hose, is a live line spraying inside the wall cavity the moment someone opens the valve.

We rebuild or replace the bib and its riser properly: anchored so it cannot twist, sealed at the penetration, with a quality quarter-turn valve that will still operate smoothly in ten years.

How the job goes

1

Stop the bleeding

If water is moving, we walk you to the shutoff over the phone while the truck rolls. Minutes matter and we treat them that way.

2

Locate before opening

Acoustic gear, pressure isolation, and meter logic find the failure before anything gets cut. One opening, at the right spot.

3

Fix the cause, not the symptom

The failed section gets rebuilt to sound pipe, and the reason it failed, pressure, freeze, age, gets named and addressed.

4

Test under pressure

Every repair holds pressure while you watch before walls close. Correct the first time, proven, not promised.

Frost-free and backflow done right

A frost-free bib puts the actual valve seat deep inside the warm wall, so the exposed body holds no water to freeze. Installed correctly, sloped to drain, with the hose removed in winter, it ends the January burst ritual. Installed flat or left with a hose on, it fails like anything else, which is why the details get done right.

Every bib we set gets a vacuum breaker so garden chemicals and hose water cannot siphon back into your drinking lines, the small cousin of our backflow prevention work.

Out here, the desert writes the rules

Every hard High Desert freeze cracks a fresh crop of standard hose bibs, Victorville to Phelan, and the mountain towns barely bother with the standard kind anymore. If yours burst last winter, replace it with the frost-free version once and stop reliving it.

Asked at the front door

Is a dripping hose bib worth a service call?

Combine it with anything else on your list and absolutely. A drip is water money down the wall, and a bib dripping against stucco is quietly feeding a repair much bigger than a faucet. Many bibs rebuild in minutes once we are there.

What is a frost-free hose bib?

A bib whose valve seat sits a foot inside the heated wall, so the outside body drains empty and has nothing to freeze. It is the standard answer up here, and the upgrade usually costs less than one freeze repair.

My hose bib snapped off at the wall. How bad is that?

Shut the water to it, or the main if you cannot isolate it, and call us. The break is inside the wall, so the repair is about opening the smallest access, replacing the riser, and anchoring the new bib so it never twists again. Routine for us, done in a visit.

Why does my new bib still freeze?

Usually a hose left attached, which traps water in the frost-free body, or the bib was installed without slope so it cannot drain. Both are correctable. Take hoses off before the first freeze, every year.

Do hose bibs really need backflow protection?

Yes. A hose lying in a puddle, a pool, or a sprayer of weed killer can siphon backward into your house lines when pressure drops. The vacuum breaker that prevents it costs almost nothing, and code agrees.
