A tankless unit that ignites late, runs cold-hot-cold, or flashes error codes is usually curable. We diagnose by the book, descale scaled exchangers, and repair what failed. Most units leave healthy, not replaced.
Error codes are a diagnosis, not a death sentence
Tankless units announce their problems: ignition failure, flame loss, exhaust blockage, scale warning. Each code narrows the fault, and we carry the meters and manometers to confirm it properly instead of swapping parts on a guess. Gas pressure gets measured, venting gets checked, the flow sensor gets tested, and you get told what actually failed.
The cold-water sandwich, that blast of cold mid-shower, and units that quit when a second fixture opens are usually flow or scale issues, both fixable. The photo on this page is real: heat exchangers opened up on our bench, because that is the level the work goes to.

Diagnose with instruments
Gas pressure, element draw, error histories, tank condition. We test rather than guess, and you see what we find.
Honest repair-or-replace math
Both numbers, side by side, with the recommendation we would give our own family. Nobody sells you a tank you did not need.
Install or repair, then prove it
Strapped, vented, tested, and demonstrated. The old equipment leaves on our truck and the area gets swept before we do.
Descaling, the repair most units actually need
In High Desert water, mineral scale is the number one tankless killer. It coats the heat exchanger, drops efficiency, triggers temperature errors, and eventually cracks the exchanger outright. A proper descaling flush dissolves the buildup and restores the unit, and on a maintained unit it takes under an hour.
If your unit never got isolation valves at install, we add them during the first service so every future flush is simple. And if the exchanger is already cracked, we price the repair against replacement honestly.

My tankless flashes an error code, what do I do?
Note the code, then call us. Codes narrow the diagnosis before the truck arrives, and some faults, like exhaust blockages, deserve fast attention. We diagnose with meters, not guesses, and quote a firm price before repair.
Why does my shower go hot, cold, then hot again?
The classic cold-water sandwich, usually a minimum-flow or scale issue rather than a dying unit. Frequently curable with a descaling flush and adjustment. If your unit does it constantly, it is asking for service.
How often does a tankless need descaling here?
In High Desert hard water, annually. With a softener ahead of the unit, every two to three years. It takes under an hour with isolation valves, and it is the difference between a 20-year unit and an 8-year one.
Can you service my brand?
We work across the major brands: Navien, Rinnai, Noritz, Takagi, A.O. Smith and their relatives. Parts availability varies by brand and age, and we tell you the parts situation with the diagnosis.
When is a tankless not worth repairing?
A cracked heat exchanger out of warranty on an older unit is usually the line. We put the repair number next to the replacement number and give you the recommendation we would take ourselves.
