A disposal that hums, trips, leaks, or rattles like a coin jar usually is not dead. Most of what kills disposals is a jam, a seal, or a reset away from fixed, and we tell you honestly when it is truly done.
The hum, the trip, and the jam
A humming disposal is jammed, not broken: something is holding the plate still while the motor strains. We clear the jam safely, check the bearings took no damage, and reset the overload. A unit that trips its breaker repeatedly has a deeper electrical or bearing problem, and we say which before any money moves.
Leaks matter more. From the top flange, it is a reseal. From the side connections, a gasket or clamp. From the bottom housing, the internal seals are gone and that unit has finished its service, no repair fixes a cracked housing honestly.

One fixture or five, a single visit covers it. Tell us the models involved and the right parts ride out on the truck.
Diagnose honestly
Rebuild or replace gets decided by the fixture’s bones, not by the biggest invoice. Plenty of visits end cheaper than the caller feared.
Install on sound connections
New supplies, working shutoffs, sealed drains. The connections behind the fixture matter more than the shine on it.
Run it while we watch
Full cycles, full flushes, dry floors confirmed. Old fixtures and packaging leave with us.
When repair is the wrong money
A five-year-old quality unit with a jam deserves the repair. A builder-grade unit leaking from the housing does not, and swapping it for a properly sized replacement through our installation service costs little more than a labor call anyway. You get both numbers and the same recommendation we would take at our own sink.
While we are under there, the drain connections and dishwasher tie-in get checked, because a disposal problem and a drain problem love wearing each other’s clothes.

Straight answers first
My disposal just hums. Is it dead?
Usually it is jammed, and forcing it from the switch cooks the motor. Kill the power, and we will clear the jam properly, check the bearings, and reset it. Most hum calls end with a working unit and a modest bill.
Why does my disposal trip the reset button constantly?
Repeated trips mean the motor is straining: failing bearings, a persistent jam, or an electrical fault. One reset is normal after a jam. A weekly ritual is a diagnosis, and we will give you the honest verdict.
There is water under my disposal. Repair or replace?
Depends where it is from. Top flange and hose connections are repairs. The bottom of the housing means internal seals are gone, and that is replacement territory. We look, we tell you which, you get a firm number either way.
What should never go in a disposal?
Grease, fibrous peels, coffee grounds in quantity, eggshells by the dozen, and anything starchy enough to make paste. The disposal survives them; your drain line does not, and that clog is the more expensive call.
Can you check the drain while you are in there?
Always. Half of disposal complaints are actually drain complaints wearing a disguise, and clearing a greasy trap arm while the unit is apart saves you a second visit.
