How a Hesperia homeowner finds out

Three ways this ends
Spot repair opens a small square of slab at the mark, cuts out the failed section, and closes it back up. That is the right call when the rest of the copper is sound. A reroute abandons that single line and runs a new one overhead through the attic or the walls, so the concrete never gets touched. A full repipe replaces every supply line in the house and ends the subject.

Why the copper under these tract homes gives out
Most of Hesperia went up slab-on-grade between the eighties and the early two-thousands, soft copper poured straight into the concrete. Then the water went to work on it. High Desert water is hard and mineral heavy, and over thirty-odd years it thins a pipe wall from the inside until a pinhole opens. Ground that swells and shrinks on some parcels and shifts sand on others does the rest, rubbing the line where it sits.

Is a warm spot on the floor always a slab leak?
It is the strongest single sign there is, though a sunny window can fool you. We confirm with the meter and a locate before anyone touches the floor.
How much of the floor has to come up?
For a spot repair, a square about a foot or two across at the mark. A reroute takes nothing off the floor and trades it for drywall patching instead.
Should I repipe the whole house instead?
First leak with otherwise healthy copper, no. Second or third leak, probably, and we will say that plainly rather than sell you the same repair twice.
Does homeowners insurance cover a slab leak?
Policies differ, and many pay for the water damage while leaving the pipe repair to you. Our locate photos and written scope give an adjuster what they ask for.
How long is the water off?
Most spot repairs finish in a day with water back that evening. A single-line reroute runs about the same. A full repipe takes longer and never leaves you dry overnight.
